| Join Maine Fire Department |
Becoming a Maine Fire Fighter to protect and serve your community is a noble calling.
I know that may sound a little "cheesy", but it's true. Many won't or can't understand how
anyone is willing to run out the door at 3 in the morning on a cold winter evening to respond to an
emergency or train on a regular basis , or give of your time on a weekly basis, and doing all of this
out of the kindness of your heart. As a Maine firefighter, we are not paid monetarily, but rather by the
satisfaction of a job well done in helping someone in need. No two calls are ever alike, and you'll never
know what you're going to come up against until you report "On the scene." There is no other
profession which compares to the life of a Firefighter.
If you're still interested, here's a little background of the entry process.
Before you fill out the application, ask yourself a few questions:
Can I dedicate 4 consecutive hours a week, every week, to the department?
Do I have transportation to and from the department each week?
Can I take the required classes, which will help to train you and may require one some Saturdays?
Can I follow the policies and procedures outlined in the company's By-laws?
Can I conduct myself as a professional?
Am I willing to learn and have fun working with others?
Am I a team player?
If you can honestly answer YES to all of these questions, then you're ready to continue. Please complete
the online Membership Application.
Maine Fire is run like an actual company. Candidates will be interviewed at the company meeting and their
application will be processed. Your application can be turned in at any time to either the company
president or fire chief. A standard check of your background will be conducted. If all goes well with
the interview and background check, at the next regularly scheduled business meeting, you will be
presented as a new member. The company will discuss and vote on your application. If you meet the
requirements and demonstrate that you are interested and committed, then you will be voted in as a
member of the Maine Fire Department and receive the rights and privileges of such a position. During
the whole application process, you are encouraged to attend drills and trainings, but you are unable
to respond on emergency calls.
It all begins with you. Hope to see you at the next company meeting.
