| In Dedication To Joe M. Vargason |
 |
| How We Started: |
In June of 2001 Maine Fire Dept member Joe Vargason was struck and killed by a drunk driver while
directing traffic for Fire Trucks responding to a car fire. To honor and memorialize Joe, it was
decided to start an Honor Guard to provide services at firefighter funerals. Since its start in 2001,
the Honor Guard has rapidly grown and now attends dozens of events each year. Everything the Honor
Guard does is and will always be dedicated to Joe.
|
| What we do: |
The purpose of the Maine Fire Dept Honor Guard is to participate in: Firefighters Funerals, Memorial
services, Parades, and many other special events. The Honor Guard is made up of 9 firefighters who go
to events to show our support, sorrow, and the presence Of the Maine Fire Dept. Our uniforms have
been completely designed by the members and we carry two custom chrome axes, a Maine Fire flag, an
American Flag, and a Fallen Firefighters Flag. The Honor Guard is a very active group and has taken
many awards at numerous fairs and competitions. We also particpated in 2001 Fallen Firefighter Memorial
in Washington DC. We were even invited to audition for the Ladder 49 movie but were unable to attened due
to the expense and timing.
