| Structure fire on Edson Road - 3/25/2009 |
Early Wednesday morning, at approximately 2:30 A.M., Maine Fire was dispatched to a reported
structure fire on Edson Road. As crews began to respond, the flames and smoke could be seen
from over a half mile away. A second alarm was immediately ordered by command as he was still
in route. West Corners Engine was first on the scene and reported a fully involved structure.
The homeowner, was able to vacate the home on his own with only minor injury from smoke inhalation.
Crews from several departments battled the flames throughout the night into the morning hours
before bringing the scene under control. Water fill sights were established at both Park Street
and at Payne Rd in West Corners in order to keep up with the flux of incoming tankers. Mutual
Aid came from West Corners, Union Center, Endwell, East Maine, Newark Valley, Glen Aubrey, Castle
Creek, Northern Broome Fast Team,and West Endicott Fire, as well as medical assistance from both
Maine Ambulance and Union Ambulance. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
