| Structure fire on Church Street - 4/01/2009 |
On Wednesday afternoon at 3 P.M., Maine Fire was dispatched to a possible house fire on Church Street.
Engine 33 - 2 and Assistant Chief 33-A responded and were on the scene within minutes. Crews arrived
to find a fully involved structure with flames rolling from the windows. A second alarm was ordered
and Maine crews worked to contain the fire and protect the exposures on both sides of the home. Shortly
after, both Engine 98 out of Endicott Fire and West Corners Engine arrived on the scene. Crews worked
both interior and exterior to bring the blaze under control. Damage to the neighbors home consisted of
just the vinyl siding which had been warped due to the extreme heat. The water fill site was established
at Pitchers Mill on Route 26 by West Corners Crews. Mutual Aid was received from West Corners, Endicott,
Union Center, East Maine, Glen Aubrey, Nanticoke, Newark Valley, Northern Broome Fast Team, and Maine
Ambulance. Castle Creek, Endwell, and West Endicott Fire were placed on standby in quarters. The scene
was secured at approximately 7:30. The cause of the fire was deemed of an electrical nature by the
Broome County Fire Investigators.
