| Home Depot Expo |
On Saturday afternoon, 10/04/2008, Maine Fire participated in Home Depot's Annual Emergency Services Expo. We arrived with Rescue 33-6 and
Brush 33-7 and began by setting up all our rescue tools in the lot. Our part of the expo was to demonstrate both our tools and
techniques that are used in extricating a victim from an vehicle involved in an accident. Tools used included Our Genesis
hydraulic cutters, rams, and spreader, typically called the Jaws of Life. We also displayed our sawsalls, airbag kit, stabalizing
jacks, air chisel, as well as various hand tools such as the window punch and battery cable cutter. Some techniques diplayed
were popping the door with the spreader, cutting the A,B,& C posts of the vehicle to remove the roof, a dash roll- used to
create space between the driver seat and an often collapsed steering wheel, vehicle stablization, and several different lift
techniques. The demonstration lasted just over an hour and we remained there for several hours after as spectators arrived and
looked over the scene. A very special thanks to Home Depot both for inviting us to participate in their event and for donating
several hundred dollars of merchandise to the department, it was much appreciated.
