Car into Creek

On Friday Morning at 7:00, Maine fire and Maine Ambulance were dispatched to an mva, car over an embankment and into a creek, on rt 26 in the hamlet of Maine. Within minutes, Rescue 33-6 and Engine 33-2 arrived along with Assistant Chief 33A, as well as Maine Ambulance. Crews found a long trail that stemmed from RT 26, ran through a mailbox, grazed the corner of the house, destroyed the side of the garage, slid between several large trees, and then went airborn over a 50 plus foot embankment and nosedived into the creek into approximately 4 feet of water. A water rescue team was immediately dispatched from both Union Center & Endwell Fire to assist in searching the car, which was halfway submerged in the creek. As crews gained access after a short wait, the car was found unoccupied. A half hour later, the driver of the vehicle was apprehended by State Police as he was riding in a friends vehicle around the scene of the accident. As details unraveled, the accident was found to have occured around 11 the night before and was not reported until shortly before 7 the following morning. The driver was the sole occupant and was able to free himself of the wreckage, walk out of the creek and up the embankment back to his residence. He was issued several tickets and then released. The car was then removed hours later by Wilcox towing of Vestal.
