| Maine Fire Awarded Grant |
On Friday November 9, Maine Fire Department was awarded a Fema Grant for little over $54,000 for a new rescue system.
Fema grants are given by the Department of Homeland Security and are awarded annually to only a small number of fire
departments who apply. We were very fortunate to receive it for a second year running and it will be used to replace
our outdated rescue tools. Our current Hurst rescue system is over 20 years old and has begun to show its age. We
will be replacing it with an all new Genesis Rescue system, complete with a power plant, cutting tools, a spreader,
rescue jacks, an air lift kit with bags, hydraulic rams, and numerous other power and hand tools. They will be
installed on Rescue 33-6 and all of our current tools will taken in on trade. In 2006, we ran more calls for motor
vehicle accidents then any other type of call. As vehicles become more complex with numerous safety features, different
materials and designs, and many various models, it becomes essential to update our equipment in order to perform at our
best. A special thanks to Chief Dave Silverstein for all his hard work and long hours in preparing both last years SCBA
grant and this years Rescue Tool grant.
